running and races
I met David at the gym. I was training for my first Spartan race. In a nutshell, these are those intense obstacle course based races that participants either look really intense or really ridiculous doing. Lifting sand buckets. Throwing a spear at hay. Hoisting sandbags. This was my father's idea of quality bonding time. Anywho, I was struggling to build upper body strength, and David offered to assist me in pull-ups. My hero.
Before school started, I wanted us to get into a healthy routine. Since David enjoys pumping iron more than he likes running (like most guys I guess?) I though it's be fun for us to do a Color Run and a Spartan Race. Although I kicked his booty in both (*love you honey!) we encouraged each other through the hills and heat.
I highly recommend doing a Spartan Race! These are sure to get your body in shape, build confidence, and test your physical and mental endurance. The obstacles help to break up the miles, so if you're not a strong cardio person, you'll get a few minutes break while your hoisting a sandbag or climbing over an inverted eight foot wall. Just get ready to work muscles that you never knew existed! Push yourself to finish the race because you get some pretty awesome souvenirs afterwards!
Here's a tip for you though: if you plan on doing the Spartan Race, make sure you buy obstacle shoes. There's so much mud on the course that you really do need the traction!
Just remember, it's a daily process. Enjoy the pain because the soreness of a good workout feels so good afterwards. Your body and mind will thank you!
