Christmas in mobile, ALabama
Omg. Now that school has started, I'm beginning to think that I was insane to do anything but Netflix during Winter break. Can we please just rewind and pause?!
Two days after Christmas, we ventured to Mobile, Alabama, to visit my father and two sisters. Deciding it was not the best idea to leave 2 dogs (well, one dog and one crazed puppy) at home alone, we loaded the canines into the Subaru and began driving. What is normally a 12 hour car ride turned into 14 with all of the doggie bathroom breaks and pit stop through small towns. At 12:30AM we finally got into Mobile, tired and ready to pass out.
If you're from Mobile or ever visited, you know that there's not really that much to do unless you're downtown. I decided to take D to the Spot of Tea--a breakfast place that I LOVED going to on Saturday mornings after the Farmer's Market. Who needs anything besides a Banana's Foster and a Monte Cristo on semi-chilly mornings to begin the day. We decided to go on a Duck Boat tour, which was actually really fun! (Kudos to D for the idea). It was kinda cool to see Mobile from a visitor's perspective.
One of the things I'm going to miss the most--besides the fam, of course--is the coffee from Carpe Diem. Absolutely the BEST COFFEE ever. They roast it in house. They have cute presents lining the gallery. It always feels so comfortable there. Plus, this place has got the most delicious chocolate chip muffins and sugar cookies, both of which were not so great for the diet...
Although the drive was super annoying, I'm glad that I got to share my hometown with D. It was kinda odd coming home and revisiting everything I left behind over 7 years ago. Although there were some new restaurants and shops, one thing has never changed: the famous/infamous rivalry between Alabama and Auburn. Those team flags were still flying high on trucks, in yards, and in storefronts. But hey, that's where I'm from and it's grown on me. Roll Tide, y'all.
