What Classes should you take
before the dat?
If you are pre-any-science-major, you know that there are sooooo many requirements to earn you desired degree. Some of those classes will be helpful in preparation for the DAT, and some not so much. I would, of course, recommend taking as many science related classes as possible (they'll help you later in dental school!), but here are the ones that I felt were absolutely vital in completing before taking the DAT:
Biology Courses
Chemistry Courses
Biology Courses
- Introduction to Human Physiology
- Evolution and Ecology
- Cell Biology
- Genetics
- Embryology (if your college offers this!)
Chemistry Courses
- Organic Chemistry (I and II)
- General Chemistry (I and II)
perceptual ability courses
I know that science majors don't have a ton of time on their hands, but try to involve yourself in an art class or two. It will help immensely with the Perceptual Ability portion of the test. And, later on, it'll help you when carving teeth out of wax in dental school!
Quantitative reasoning Preparation
The math that is on the DAT is pretty basic material that you would have learned in high school. The problems ranged fro algebraic to trigonometry, and a couple of word problems. If you have extra time, I would definitely review a little of this section, but it should not be your primary subject to study.
Wondering what classes you can hold off on until after the DAT or graduation?
