Dental School
Interview Invitation
So you got the dental school interview, huh? Congratulations! This is amazing news, and you're one step closer to becoming a dental student (and eventually a dentist)! Take a moment to relish in this huge accomplishment on Cloud Nine, and then float back on down to Earth because it's time to prep for this thing.
What the Invitation Means
You've passed the DAT and GPA standards. Now you're on your way to the next big step: the interview. When you walk into the dental school on interview day, you're on an equal playing field with everyone else. Some people will flex on forums weeks leading up to the interview, and some will talk a big game during the interview sessions. So if (and when) you start to doubt why the admissions committee sent YOU that dental school invitation, remember this: someone read your application, was impressed by you on paper, and believed in you enough to give you a chance. Honor this opportunity.
The invitation is the school offering you the chance to show who you are as a person. Sure, they're interested in the scores you earned in your college courses, the service extracurricular activities you volunteered at weekly, and of course the mentoring roles you took on during the last couple of years. Now, they want to get to know the not-on-paper you.
They want to see how you are able to interact with strangers--the interviewers, your fellow interviewing cohort of pre-dental students, and administrators of the dental school. The interview is about putting a face to the name on the application and making the personal statement/ dental school secondary applications/ GPA and DAT come to life. This is your chance to charm the heck out of that admissions committee and to convince them that you are the best future dentist for the spot in the matriculating class.
The bottom line is this: the dental school invitation is your chance to impress the committee with your personality, wit, and positive attitude. Your job during this interview to befriend the admissions committee and your fellow interviewing candidate cohort. Remember, all eyes are on you at all times during the interview. These might be your future professors fellow classmates one day--put the best foot forward. People will remember how you presented yourself during the interview, so many sure that it's in the best light.
